OrCam:


Innovators at the Israeli company OrCam Technologies Limited have combined a small but powerful computer digital sensors and excellent Machine Learning algorithms to give key aspect of sight to visually impaired people. It is given a name Orcam MyEye. So let’s talk about OrCam.


Wikipedia has described OrCam as  a portable, artificial vision device that allow visually impaired people to understand text and identify objects through audio feedback, describing what they are unable to see. It is clipped to the side of the glass magnetically. It is light around 22.5 gram and it is about the size of the finger. 


OrCam 2.0 is the 2nd generation model and is the latest one introduced in December of 2017. It is the combination of tiny digital camera and speaker that works by conducting sound waves through the bones of the head. It consists of AI driven algorithms. OrCam is battery powered device.  It can read barcodes, can recognize face, read the labels of the products, company of the products, manufacturing date, read books, magazines,  can recognize money . But it cannot recognize hand written information. It can also recognize when an image is upside down and hints user to flip them. It can sense the presence of adequate light to capture the image. It  recognize millions of products including groceries and credit cards. 


It has changed the life of many visually impaired people. It helps people with low vision, reading fatigue, reading difficulties, partially sighted and even blind.  It is an eye for them that captures the images around them by just clicking it and pointing towards the object that is to be recognized or letter that is to be read. Its camera and sensor perform their tasks efficiently.
